Van 16 tot en met 20 november heeft in Brugge de 6de "European Space Weather Week" plaats.
Enkele onderwerpen zijn ook interessant voor radioamateurs. Zo behandelt de lezing "Space Weather Impacts on Communication Systems" op dinsdag 17 november uitgebreid de invloed van de zonne-activiteit op de propagatie, gaande van VLF tot VHF.
De topics die in deze lezing behandeld worden zijn:
- HF Communication Frequencies and the Solar Cycle
- Solar Flares and HF Communication Fadeouts
- Ionospheric Disturbances and HF Communications
- Space Weather and VLF, LF, and MF as well as VHF propagation affected by ionosphere and higher frequency signals (X, K and higher bands ) affected by troposphere
- Mitigation of space weather effects

Radioamateurs die een of meerdere lezingen willen bijwonen kunnen genieten van een verminderd tarief van 50 € voor deelname aan het congres op 17 en 18 september. Inschrijven dient hier te gebeuren voor 17 oktober.

SPACE WEATHER AND THE EARTH'S CLIMATE
WHAT ARE THE INFLUENCES & THE EFFECT OF AN UNUSUALLY DEEP SOLAR MINIMUM?
The solar influence on earth's climate is the subject of several scientific discussions. At the same time, people worry about the actual solar minimum and the absence of sunspots.
We will organise a debate about this subject on Tuesday Nov 17, 2009 from 18:30-19:30. The debate is open to the press, to the public and to the scientific community. It promises to be interesting.
TUTORIAL: SPACE WEATHER
A tutorial and introduction to space weather will be given on Monday morning November 16, 2009. This will be geared towards students, young scientists/engineers and people new to the field, but all are welcome to attend. Registration is free and participation to the ESWW6 is not necessary.
