On 20 April, an ARISS contact took place between the Winmalee Public School in Australia and the American astronaut Victor Glover, KI5BKC on board the ISS. An ARISS contact is no longer exceptional in the amateur radio world. However, this contact between people from two different continents has become special, because people from a third continent also took part in this event.
This ARISS contact was made by ON7UX and thanks to ON6TI and ON4ALV, recruits from the Belgian army witnessed it. Jan, ON7UX took care of the VHF contact between his station and the ISS and the telephone contact between his station and the school in Australia. In turn, Stefan, ON6TI and Luc, ON4ALV listened in, directly on the VHF frequency and at the same time passed on the information to Belgian army NCOs in training.
This is a great example of the role that amateur radio can play in today's world. You can read the details in the ARRL article published on the following website: http://www.arrl.org/news/ariss-contact-with-australian-school-proves-educational-on-morethan-one-continent
Thanks to ON4ALV, ON4AWM and ON4AAA for the information and to ON7YD for the publication.
