QTH: Gavdos Island, IOTA Reference: EU-187, Grid Locator: KM14va
Dates: 24 -29 July 2025
Callsign: SX9G
QSL via: ON3UN

Operators: SV1JG – SV1ENG – SV1GE – SV1DPJ – SV1YU – DD2CW – HB9EBC – ON3UN – VK2IR – G0PZA

Gavdos is a tiny Greek island located in the Libyan Sea, approximately 48 km south of Crete. Administratively, it belongs to the Chania regional unit of Crete. The island has a small permanent population — around 50 residents — but it attracts summer visitors for its pristine nature, crystal-clear waters, and tranquil atmosphere.

Most famously, Gavdos is home to Cape Tripiti, marked by a large chair sculpture, symbolizing the southernmost point of Europe. From here, it’s just the open sea all the way to Africa.

Activation Purpose:

To activate this rare IOTA reference (EU-187), promote HF radio activity from remote locations, and enjoy the thrill of contesting from one of the most spectacular and off-the-grid places in Europe.

QSL Info: All QSL cards should be sent via ON3UN.
We look forward to hearing you on the bands!
