The annual celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, on 3 December, was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly.
Its purpose is to promote the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development, and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
Every year, IARU Region 1 asked us if we wanted to be active with a special call sign. By the time we received that request, it was always too late to take action.
As the "Other Valid Committee," we have requested a special call sign for this year, OT5IDPD.
OT5IDPD, (International Day of Persons with Disabilities) has been established and will only be activated by able-bodied radio amateurs.
The following stations are participating and will be active with the call OT5IDPD: Frank ON4AAC, Raff ON6IX, Greg ON6YP, Erik ON4ANN. QSL cards will be sent via ON6WL. Electronic QSL cards via LOTW, EQSL.
To give everyone the opportunity to work with us, we will be active from 4 November to 3 December.
