Within the UBA, B-EARS brings together volunteer amateur radio operators who are ready to mobilise in the event of a major communication network failure.
To respond effectively alongside authorities and emergency services, volunteers undergo a brief training program.
This training familiarizes them with the terminology used by emergency responders, teaches them how to make the best use of portable and mobile equipment, and helps them understand the organization of emergency response operations as well as the five response disciplines.
Practical simulations complement this training and help volunteers refine their skills in coordinated network operations.
