Als kleine jongen luisterde Bart Aerts vol spanning naar de oorlogsverhalen van zijn grootvader over de neergestorte bommenwerpers boven Achel en omstreken. Om deze helden uit WOII te herdenken is Bart als zendamateur in 2011 begonnen met MOTA-activaties in het noorden van Limburg op de exacte plaatsen waar deze vliegtuigen destijds neergestort zijn. Hij is dus de bezieler en de oprichter van de Memorial On The Air activaties in Belgie en wil hiermee de herinnering levend houden aan de vliegtuigbemanningen die gestorven zijn voor onze vrijheid. Op 23 juni 2012 zal Bart (met roepnaam ON3FMB) en een team van andere zendamateurs uit de regio (van de sectie NLB: ON4VLM en ON5WAL, van de sectie NOL: ON3EE en ON7KEI en van de sectie MTT: ON3EA) voor het eerst ook een speciale activatie (genaamd ON1RAFMOTA) doen op deze dag van de herdenkingsplechtigheden. Wil je eens komen kijken hoe Bart en zijn team de gevallen geallieerde bemanningen herdenken begeef je dan naar de Kleine Haart (KAPEL) te 3930 Hamont – Achel. Iedereen van harte welkom.
9H9IMW - International Museums Weekend

June 16-24 2012, Fortunati 9H1ES is going to hold an exhibition in Valletta entitled ‘Vintage Wireless Military Museum’, as part of the International Museum Weekend. Thirty vintage communications transmitters and receivers of the period 1938–1944, including wireless of post war will be exhibited, as well as H2S equipment (nowadays called Radar) which was invented in 1935 and was used by the RAF during WWII.
During the weekends, 9H9IMW will be aired on HF bands and VHF including 6m.
European Football Championship 2012

"European Football Championship 2012 on the AIR" is an on-the-air activity which promises to be a great deal of fun, organized by Polish and Ukrainian amateurs affiliated with PZK and UARL.
From June 1 to July 5 2012, there will be numerous special event stations active on the air. They will be operating concurrently with the 2012 European Football Championship, which this year is organized jointly by Poland and Ukraine.

ON500MERCATOR aan boord van de Mercator

Tijdens het weekend van 25 tot 28 mei 2012 activeren de Sint-Niklase radiozendamateurs de special event call “ON500MERCATOR” rechtstreeks vanop het wereldvermaarde zeilschip de “MERCATOR”. Dit school- en opleidingsschip ligt sedert jaar en dag in de haven van Oostende. Wie van ons bracht niet een ‘verplicht’ bezoek aan dit pronkstuk, dat zijn naam kreeg naar de cartograaf MERCATOR, 500 jaar geleden geboren in 1512 in het Waasland. Het schip staat gekend omwille van zijn specifieke bouw en snelheden waardoor het tijdens diverse wedstrijden meermaals als winnaar uit de bus kwam. In 1936 bracht dit schip het stoffelijk overschot van Pater Damiaan terug naar België.
Diverse operatoren zullen zaterdag en zondag actief zijn in verschillende modes, zonder toegang tot cluster of behulp van pc, zoals echte marconisten en operatoren te werk gaan, rechtstreeks vanuit de radiohut van de MERCATOR. De radiohut – normaal gesloten voor het publiek – wordt enkel en alleen voor dit evenement ter beschikking gesteld van de Sint-Niklase radiozendamateurs. Een radiocontact met deze special event call op deze locatie geeft een extra punt voor het ON500MERCATOR-award.
OT7G/P - De Ghellinck Castle

A non-stop castle activity for the Belgium Castle Award is planned on Friday 18 May 14:00 UTC till Sunday 20 May 14:00 UTC. Members of UBA section ODE will activate Castle De Ghellinck (BCA ref. OV-032) on all HF bands SSB & CW and on 2m FM & ATV via local repeaters, using the call OT7G/P.
The castle in Elsegem (JO10ST) goes back to the 16th century and became the property of the family De Ghellinck around 1718. Although the castle was surrounded with water, it was not really fortified. As so many castles, it was pillaged during the French revolution. In the 19th century there have been many structural alterations. During both World Wars there was a lot of damage. After the Second World War the castle wasn’t used any more and in 1973 the whole building burned down. The community of Wortegem Petegem obtained the castle and the park. The remaining buildings are being restored, but financial problems slow down the project.

Het hele jaar door en in het bijzonder tijdens het weekend van 14 april zal sectie EKO (Meetjeslandse zendamateurs Maldegem) het special event station ON100TT activeren ter nagedachtenis van de ramp met de Titanic.
Zaterdag 14 april zal het precies 100 jaar geleden zijn dat het noodlot toesloeg bij de oversteek van Queenstown richting New York. Meer dan 1500 passagiers en bemanningsleden kwamen hierbij om het leven, maar mede dankzij het koelbloedig optreden van marconisten John George Phillips en Harold Sidney Bride konden ook meer dan 700 opvarenden worden gered. Het was dan ook de noodoproep “CQD” verzonden vanuit de Titanic Marconi room die de nabijgelegen Carpatia kon alarmeren en de ronddobberende schipbreukelingen van een tergende onderkoelingsdood redden. Eens te meer was het belang en de kracht van de radioverbinding voor de scheepvaart bewezen.
ON100TT zal te werken zijn op VHF en alle HF-banden, in verschillende modes. Een speciaal ontworpen QSL-kaart wordt opgedragen aan alle slachtoffers en in het bijzonder aan de bemanningsleden die plichtsbewust op post bleven.
ON35WR - La section UBA de Waterloo fête

(te vertalen) C'est en 1968 qu'un premier club radioamateur vit le jour à Waterloo. Alors affilié à l'UBRC sous l'indicatif ON4PB, ce club subsidié par la Province de Brabant, prit fin en 1976. Sous l'impulsion de Roger, ON4TX, les activités radioamateur reprirent des couleurs sous la forme d’une section UBA en Avril 1977 et la création d’une ASBL "Waterloo Electronics Club".
35 ans plus tard, en 2012, le Waterloo Electronics Club se porte comme un charme et s'apprête à fêter cet anniversaire dignement. A cette occasion, l'ensemble des membres du club - ON7WR pour les intimes - vous invite à participer aux festivités. Jusqu'en décembre prochain, ils animeront régulièrement les bandes amateurs avec l'indicatif spécial ON35WR. Outre l'occasion de célébrer le 35ième anniversaire de la section UBA de Waterloo, il s'agit également de l'opportunité de faire connaître le radio amateurisme au grand public. A cette fin, les activations de l'indicatif spécial se feront depuis le local de Braine-l'Alleud, rue du Feuillage, entre le n° 57 et 59. Une QSL spéciale sera disponible. Le local sera bien entendu ouvert aux profanes désireux de découvrir notre hobby. Les premières dates retenues pour cette activité sont les suivantes : Les dimanches 1er, 15 et 29 Avril, 13 et 27 Mai, ainsi que les 10 et 24 Juin. Vanaf heden tot 31/12/2012 gebruikt het clubstation ON4OSA de call ON20OSA. Het clubstation ON4OSA viert dit jaar de 20ste verjaardag van de wekelijkse nieuwsronde voor radioamateurs.

ON800TUR - Turnhout, cultuurstad 2012

Naar aanleiding van het feestjaar 'Turnhout 2012, cultuurstad van Vlaanderen' zal in 2012 in het centrum van Turnhout een nieuwe 'Slag' te zien zijn. Omdat het dan 800 jaar geleden is dat Turnhout stadsrechten kreeg, staat deze keer niet de Brabantse Omwenteling centraal. In de plaats daarvan zal in acht taferelen, op acht locaties, telkens een episode uit een van de acht eeuwen stadsgeschiedenis in scène gezet worden. Dit is een van de vele evenementen die dit feestjaar te Turnhout wordt georganiseerd en waaraan de radioamateurs van de Noorderkempen (UBA-sectie NOK) met de speciale clubcall ON800TUR hun steentje zullen bijdragen.

ON65BR - 65 jaar OSB

2012 is een heel bijzonder jaar voor de Brugse zendamateurs van de sectie OSB. Zij vieren niet enkel hun 65-jarig bestaan als radioamateurvereniging maar ook hebben ze al 40 jaar hun vaste stek op het terrein gelegen aan de Lodewijk Coiseaukaai 31. Om dit gebeuren in de spotlights te zetten, zal OSB gedurende gans 2012 de call ON65BR gebruiken tijdens contesten en clubactiviteiten.
Als aftrap van het feestjaar zal het clubstation op maandag 2 januari 2012 de hele dag QRV zijn op alle banden. Vanaf 20u30 (lokale tijd) is er eveneens een OSB-ronde gepland met deze call op 145.325.

Radio Club des Ardennes RCA te Bastogne zal van 22 december 2011 tot 30 juni 2012 ON44NUTS activeren, ter nagedachtenis aan alle US militairen, gesneuveld voor onze vrijheid, maar ook ter herinnering aan het befaamde antwoord “Nuts!” van de Amerikaanse generaal McAuliffe tijdens het Ardennenoffensief, toen de Duitse aanvallers de overgave van de Amerikanen eisten.
